Manu National Biosphere Reserve Park

MANU NATIONAL BIOSPHERE RESERVE PARK

Located in the south-western region of the Amazon basin, free of pollution and with non disturbed wildlife and pristine Forest is the largest and the only one untouched reserve in the neotropics.

On May 29th of 1973 has been declared as a National Park  by the Peruvian law  0644-73-AG  and recognized by the UNESCO as a natural Historic Sanctuary COVERS an Area of 1’881,200 Hectares with the aim of preserving the Nature for the benefit of present and future generations

Starting from the eastern slope of the Andes, the Biosphere protects one of the most important tropical wild lands of the planet becoming the refugee of many species of endangered animals, such as the Jaguar (Panthera onca), Giant Otter (Pteronura Brasiliensis) Black Caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja). It has became famous for its possibilities to still observe the flora and especially fauna of the Amazonian rainforest. Manu containing around 1,000 species of birds (including seven species of colorful macaws), thousands species of plants, 13 species of monkeys and hundreds of other mammals.
The main area of the Manu territory is a tropical rainforest, in which  there are included three other highly distinct ecological levels: THE PUNA  - high altitude tundra like area; the mysterious CLOUD FOREST with a not enough studied ecosystems and the MOUNTAIN RAIN FOREST.

For touristic purposes the Manu Biosphere Reserve has been divided into three zones

A – THE NATIONAL PARK which is in total conservation and not allowed for tourism activities
B – THE CULTURAL ZONE for subsistence and ecotourism activities
C – THE RESERVED ZONE assigned for ecotourism activities.

A Visit to THE MANU PARK is one of the most exiting ultimate and unique experiences that you can imagine in the life, the few days that a tourist can spend in this area can never be compared with any other experience in the World

Imagine Yourself watching in the middle of the Jungle the pass of wildlife in the pristine forest such as macaws (Ara sp.), blue and yellow macaw (ara ararauna), scarlet macaw (Ara macao), Harpy Eagle (Harpya harpyja), Giant Otters ( Pteronura brasiliensis), White cair black Caiman (Melanosuchus niger),  a Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), Anaconda (Boa constrictor), or a Jaguar (Panthera onca) may be seen. Our Expeditions to THE MANU NATIONAL PARK begins leaving Cuzco driving the highway until Huambutio village once acrossing the Bridge we take the Dusty road passing through small Andean villages like Colquepata, Paucartambo, Pilcopata, Patria, Shintuya, Salvacion and Atalaya  where the only way to continue is by River on Boats to reach as far as Boca Manu
The main part of the expeditions leave from Cuzco but it is possible also to combine with flights  in small aircrafts from Cuzco to Boca Manu for visitors who do not have enough time to accomplish a long programs like 8 Days 7 Nights
